How Valley residents are helping hurricane victims

Glendale firefighters will take donations from 4 to 6 p.m. outside of the city's main library, 5959 W. Brown Street.

Desert Palms Elementary in the Peoria Unified School District is holding a change drive Friday through Sept. 12.

Phoenix Elementary School District children are bringing pennies from home.

Avondale will collect money in fundraising cans that will be on public counters at Avondale City Hall, Avondale Public Library, the Avondale Community Center, the police department and city court. At One Yoga is holding a hurricane relief event from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at 3153 E. Lincoln, Phoenix. For a contribution of $25 or more, the evening provides a yoga lesson from Ian Lopatin, followed by dinner catered by La Grande Orange Grocery. Success Financial Network CEO Bob McCord has donated $15,000 . McCord will match donations from employees and sales associates of Success Financial Network up to an additional $15,000. The company set up a similar drive for tsunami victims in January.

Reiki-4-u practitioner Diana Olander will be donating half of her proceeds for the week of Sept. 5 through Sept. 12. Her hourly fee is $60. (480) 212-6747.

Kazimierz World Wine Bar, 7137 E. Stetson Drive, Scottsdale, will hold a silent auction from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday. It will offer wine and gift certificates from Valley bars, hotels and restaurants. HomesforKatrina.org, is coordinating temporary housing for victims.
